Bicol towns suspend classes due to bad weather

The DA has recorded P81,107,222 in agricultural losses in the entire Bicol after the region experienced days of incessant rains.

LEGAZPI CITY — Some local governments in the Bicol region suspended classes on Friday, Jan. 27, due to rains brought by the northeast monsoon and the shear line.

In Virac town in Catanduanes province, Mayor Samuel Laynes suspended classes at the pre-school and elementary levels in public and private schools.

In Sorsogon City, Mayor Ester Hamor also ordered class suspension in elementary and high school in public and private schools.

In Bato town in Camarines Sur, the spillway connecting San Vicente and Bacolod villages was temporarily closed due to flooding.

Bato disaster officials said all motorists were discouraged from crossing the flooded area.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in an advisory that Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, and Albay experienced moderate to heavy rains.

Pagasa said disaster officials were advised to monitor the weather. INQ
