LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle-riding gunman shot and killed a 40-year-old man and wounded his companion on Tuesday evening, January 17, in Sariaya town in Quezon province.

Police reported Wednesday that laborer Edgardo De Castro and fellow worker Gerry Escovilla, 39, both residents of the locality, were seated on their motorcycle while waiting for someone in Barangay (village) Manggalang Bantilan.

Suddenly, a red Honda motorcycle stopped in front of them. Without any provocation, the back-rider pulled out a handgun and repeatedly shot De Castro and Escovilla.

The gunman and his cohort, who was driving the motorcycle, sped off after the shooting and left De Castro dead on the spot from fatal bullet wounds, the police said.

Escovilla was taken to Candelaria Doctors Hospital in the neighboring Candelaria town for treatment.

The police are investigating the incident to establish the motive behind the killing and unmask the perpetrators.
