LTO fixer in Antique faces 24 arrest warrants; total bail at P1.29 million

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 24 arrest warrants were issued against an alleged fixer at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Antique district office, the agency said Wednesday.

According to LTO in a statement, the said fixer identified as Alfredo Jose de Leon was an employee at the LTO Antique District Office and has since been separated from the service.

The LTO said that the Municipal Trial Court of San Jose, Antique filed the warrants on Jan. 12 after charging De Leon with 12 counts of Falsification of Public Documents, and 12 counts of Violation of Sec. 4(e) in relation to Sections 21 (h) & 22(b) of Republic Act 11032, otherwise known as the “Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018.”

Total bail for all the said cases was set at P1.296 million.

“The filing of cases against this corrupt employee serves as an example that LTO offices around continue are doing everything to heed my call to stamp out corruption at their respective areas of jurisdiction. Crime really does not pay at the LTO,” LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade said in a statement.

It can be recalled that the LTO previously strengthened its campaign against fixers within the agency, even prompting district heads through a memorandum to remind their employees of the anti-fixing policy, as well as ordering them to conduct random inspections in each regional office.
