LPA to continue widespread rain over parts of PH — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The majority of the country on Sunday may continue to expect rain due to the effects of the low-pressure area (LPA) near Southern Leyte, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to Pagasa, the LPA was last spotted 125 kilometers east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte. It has a low chance of turning into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours but is expected to continue bringing rain over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“Malaking bahagi pa rin ng Luzon ang makakaranas ng pagulan, kung saan meron tayong mga kalat-kalat hanggang sa mga malawakang pagulan sa bahagi ng Bicol Region at Quezon,” said Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda.

(Large parts of Luzon will still experience rain where there will be scattered to widespread rains in parts of the Bicol Region and Quezon.)

“Samantala meron din tayong mga pagulan na mararanasan sa mga nalalabi pang Calabarzon, bahagi ng Mimaropa, Aurora, at dito rin sa Metro Manila magiging maulap ang kalangitan na may mataas na tiyansa ng pagulan, pagkulog,” she added.

(Meanwhile, rains will be experienced by those living in the rest of Calabarzon, part of Mimaropa, Aurora, and here in Metro Manila, the sky will be cloudy with a high chance of rain and thunder.)

The rest of Luzon, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain.

Meanwhile, the LPA will likewise bring cloudy skies and widespread rain showers over the entire Visayas and Mindanao, so Castañeda warned the public to look out for flooding and landslides.

A gale warning was also raised over the seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan, and Babuyan Islands, as well as the northern coast of Ilocos Norte, due to wave heights expected to reach four meters in height.

The state weather bureau said the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Sunday will be:
