MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Gen. Andres Centino as the new Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff, replacing Lt. Gen. Bartolome Bacarro.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Friday announced that Centino would be returning as AFP chief of staff after he served in the same position from November 12, 2021 to August 8, 2022.
He had already taken his oath of office before the President at the Malacañang.
“Under his leadership, the Armed Forces successfully launched military campaigns to combat insurgents and local terrorist groups resulting in the dismantling of guerilla fronts and the clearing of affected communities,” PCO said in a statement.
Centino, according to the PCO, also sought the completion of capability projects as part of the AFP modernization.
“During his tenure, he led the units of the Armed Forces nationwide in advancing the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Philippine 2022 national and local elections,” it added.
The PCO also noted that Centino, who graduated cum laude from the Philippine Military Academy in 1988, served as the Commanding General of the Philippine Army before his stint as AFP chief of staff.
Bacarro served as AFP chief of staff for only less than five months.
