In Sto. Tomas City, Andrea Mae Hernandez, 18, died at 6:20 a.m. after a passing jeepney driven by Jeoffrey Vargas Jr. hit her along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Juan.

Hernandez was buying food at the roadside when a “fast-approaching” vehicle hit her, said the report.

She suffered injuries and was rushed to the San Pablo City Medical Hospital and later transferred to Batangas City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Vargas was placed under police custody.
