MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and is forecast to cause overcast skies and rain in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.
Pagasa weather specialist Patrick Del Mundo said the LPA entered the PAR at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and that it was last located 195 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan province.
“[D]ahil pa rin dito ay makakaranas ng maulap na kalangitan na mag kalat-kalat na pag-ulan sa bahagi ng Palawan, Visayas, at Mindanao sa buong maghapon,” he said.
(Because of this, cloudy skies with scattered rain will be experienced in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao all afternoon.)
Del Mundo warned of possible flooding and landslides in areas affected by the LPA.
On the other hand, the northeast monsoon – locally known as amihan – is anticipated to bring cloudy skies with rain in Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Mimaropa this Wednesday.
As for Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, Pagasa said it is also affected by the northeast monsoon but with “no significant impact.”
However, the northeast monsoon prompted Pagasa to raise gale warnings over several areas such as the eastern coast of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, northern Quezon including the northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Batanes, northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Kalayaan Islands, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
