Aumentado said he decided to ditch a party and instead spent his birthday helping victims.

“I chose to celebrate my birthday with the victims and remind them that many love them,” he said. “There is still hope.”

Aside from cash, the victims also received a pack of sardines and rice.

Aumentado said the government allocated financial aid to 75 families who were homeless after a big fire that killed three people last Dec. 23.

The governor was accompanied by Vice Gov. Victor Balite, Rep. Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado of the second district, Tagbilaran Vice Mayor Adam Jala, and Barangay Poblacion 2 chairman Allan Ricardo Real.
