Search for missing fishermen in Eastern, Northern Samar continues
TACLOBAN CITY – The search for the missing fishermen in Northern and Eastern Samar due to massive rains continues.
In Palapag town, its municipal disaster risk reduction management office (MDRRMO) said they received reports that the fishing boat used by two of its missing fishermen was found in Barangay Canvañes, Masbate on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
However, fishermen Jonathan Ponce and Roy Tosing remained missing.
Jeremy Alexandre Evardone, chief of the MDRRMO of Palapag, said they will continue the search operations to locate the whereabouts of the missing fishermen.
In Eastern Visayas, there are still 10 fishermen who were reported missing with four others confirmed to have died due to drowning while they were at sea.

Article continues after this advertisementIn Llorente town, Eastern Samar, Eduardo Punay, officer-in-charge of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, on Thursday led the distribution of cash assistance and food packs to the residents affected by the massive flooding.
The town has been under a state of calamity since Dec.25.
Each of the 1,030 families of the town received P2,000 and a food pack from Punay.
The aid was given by the department under its assistance to individuals in crisis situations as an augmentation to the local government unit’s own assistance to the flood-hit victims.
