MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said 10 communist rebels and members of alleged communist front organizations recently surrendered to authorities in Central Luzon.

Citing a report, the PNP said in a statement that three members of Anakpawis Bulacan Chapter surrendered to personnel of the second Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) and Limay Municipal Police Station. They also surrendered one unit of Colt cal.45 and two live ammunition.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., meanwhile, disclosed the surrender of a former member of the New People’s Army (NPA). The rebel turned over one revolver cal.38, six pieces of cal.38 live ammunition, and one MK2 hand grenade to personnel of the first PMFC and Bulacan PIU (Police Intervention Unit), he added.

The PNP did not reveal the names of the four surrenderers.

In Tarlac, joint elements of the PNP and the Philippine Army facilitated the surrender of “Ka-Ronnie,” supposedly a former member of the Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla-Tarlac-Zambales; “Ka-Mely,” allegedly a former member Milisyang Bayan Member; and “Ka-karab-as,” purportedly a former member of Anakpawis, according to authorities.

The three, police added, turned over one unit of homemade shotgun, one unit of cal.38 revolver, and two Rifle Propelled Grenades (RPG).

Two others surrendered in Olongopo City and were identified as

“Sonny” and “Lara” – allegedly former members of Anakpawis and Gabriela – submitted themselves to authorities in Olongapo City and yielded one homemade caliber .38 revolver loaded with four live ammunition, the PNP said.

Another rebel, “Amparo” – supposedly a former member of Underground Mass Organization, surrendered to the Zambales 2nd PMFC, the PNP added.

“Sa mga natitira pa nating kapatid sa kabundukan na ngayon ay may pagaalinlangan pa ring sumuko, ang ating gobyerno at ang kapulisan ay andito lamang upang kayo ay tanggapin sa inyong pagbabalik loob sa panig ng ating pamahalaan,” Azurin said.

(To the rest of our brothers in the mountains who are still uncertain about surrendering, our government and the PNP are here to receive you as you return to the side of the our government.)

“At ang ating hangad, sa darating na mga araw ay makasama natin sila upang maranasan din nilang mamuhay ng payapa at walang takot,” he added.

(And our wish, in the days to come, is to be with them so that they too can experience living in peace and without fear.)
