29 suspected NPA members surrender in Sarangani, says PNP

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said 29 suspected members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) operating in the province of Sarangani formally surrendered on Friday.

PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. in a statement on Sunday said the 29 are members of Militia ng Bayan, New People’s Army, Guerilla Front Musa and Platoon Central, and were identified as:

The suspected NPA members who surrendered were received by personnel of the Kiamba Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 38th IB, 6th ID, at the Headquarters of the Alpha Company, 38th IB, 6th ID, PA, Purok Caballero, Barangay (village) Tambilil, Kiamba, Sarangani Province.

Azurin also said the suspected NPA members turned over several rifles, assorted rounds of ammunition, an improvised explosive device, and 70 meters of electrical wire.

“We are gaining the efforts of the local peace initiatives being pursued by our police units all over the country. We hope that our various sectors in the society will continuously channel their initiatives and encourage to support these peace endeavors of the different LGUs (local government units) so that we can altogether win this for a peaceful community in general,” Azurin said.
