LEGAZPI CITY — More than 400 people were moved to evacuation centers on Monday due to nonstop heavy rains brought by the shear line and northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan, affecting the Bicol region and other Luzon areas.
Gremil Alexis Naz, spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense Bicol, said that as of 3 p.m., 127 families or 417 individuals took shelter in evacuation centers in Vinzons town in Camarines Norte; and towns of Tinambac, Lagonoy, Calabanga and Magarao in Camarines Sur.
Naz said 62 floodings and two landslide incidents were reported from 14 towns in the two provinces.
The bad weather disturbances also forced the local government units to suspend work and classes in Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte.
Several villages also experienced power interruptions in Camarines Norte.
At 5 p.m., Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Southern Luzon raised a red heavy rainfall warning in Albay, Catanduanes and Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, San Jose, Goa, Tinambac, Calabanga, Siruma), where serious floods and landslides were expected in high-risk areas.
An orange warning was raised in Camarines Norte and the rest of Camarines Sur, while a yellow warning was raised in Sorsogon. INQ
