MANILA, Philippines — The country registered 7,725 new COVID-19 infections from December 12-18, according to the latest report of the Department of Health (DOH).
Monday’s weekly report of DOH also disclosed 186 additional deaths and that the nationwide coronavirus death toll reached 65,094 as of December 19. The government explained that 38 of the 186 happened in the past two weeks, while the rest were from July 2020 onward and were only verified recently.
Likewise, the newest DOH report noted that only seven or 0.09 percent of the 7,725 new COVID-19 cases were severe or critical. As of December 18, the total active severe or critical cases stood at 592.
Further, the weekly data indicated that utilization of non-ICU and ICU hospital beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients decreased from 24 percent to 22.5 percent and 22.4 percent to 20.4 percent, respectively, from December 12-18.
Regarding progress in vaccination against COVID-19, the DOH said the government has already vaccinated 94.41 percent of its target population – 73,737,536 – with 28,436 new vaccinations last week. Boosted individuals increased, too, as 58,668 more received booster doses in the same period, pushing the total to 21,097,504.
Meanwhile, the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker revealed that 863 more people in the country contracted the coronavirus this day, December 19, while active cases were at 17,593.
The week prior, December 12-18, the DOH said 8,292 new COVID-19 cases were recorded.
