Muntinlupa residential area fire kills 10

MANILA, Philippines — Ten people died in a fire that hit a residential area in Muntinlupa City on Sunday morning.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire struck Larva Street, Bruger Subdivision, in Barangay (village) Putatan, Muntinlupa City.

The BFP said the fire reached the first alarm at 8:56 a.m. before being declared fire under control at 9:25 a.m.

Responding firefighters put the fire out at 10:25 a.m.

The BFP said at least three families were affected by the fire. Damage was estimated at P500,000.

In a statement by the Muntinlupa City government, a total of 10 people were killed by the fire.

“Batay sa inisyal na findings ng BFP, posibleng nagsimula ang sunog sa kusina ng bahay. Ongoing pa ang kanilang imbestigasyon,” the city’s local Disaster Risk Reduction Management office said.

(Based on the initial findings of the BFP, it is possible that the fire started in the kitchen of a house. Their investigation is still ongoing.)

Meanwhile, those affected by the fire were given assistance on the order of Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon.
