DND on Bonifacio day: Present time calls for same fervor, integrity to protect PH stability
MANILA, Philippines — As the country commemorates Andres Bonifacio’s 159th birthday, the Department of Defense (DND) on Wednesday stressed the need to embody his “fervor, integrity, and excellence” in facing current threats to peace.
DND officer-in-charge Jose Faustino Jr. said this in a statement, citing the father of the revolution as a “sterling example of grit and dedication to the cause of the country’s liberation.”
“Today, we honor and emulate Bonifacio’s heroism amid the tribulations and adversities we face as a people in this era,” said Faustino.
“…We may no longer be a country that grapples with the struggles we endured during the time of our great heroes, but our time presents new challenges that necessitate the same fervor, integrity, and excellence to defend and protect our nation’s peace and stability,” he added.
According to Faustino, Bonifacio’s “unmatched patriotism” continues to inspire Filipinos — from his time to succeeding generations — to fight for the country’s security and peace.
