10 nabbed for illegal gambling in Tarlac
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — Policemen arrested 10 persons allegedly engaged in illegal gambling in Gerona, Pura, and Moncada towns in Tarlac as part of the weeklong anti-criminality campaign.
Tarlac police director Colonel Erwin Sanque reported on Monday, Nov. 7, that the ten were playing mahjong, tong-its, and bet games.
He said P3,364 in bet money was seized from the suspects’ playing tables.
Sanque also disclosed that 72 other crime suspects were arrested from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6. These include 14 suspected drug peddlers, 41 persons with standing warrants of arrest, and 17 others apprehended by policemen responding to distress calls.
He said 37 sachets of “shabu” (crystal meth) were confiscated from suspected drug peddlers, while one person in Camiling town was arrested for possession of marijuana.
Also in Camiling, a person turned over a.45-caliber pistol to the police for safekeeping.
The police go to residences of gun owners with expired licenses under its “Oplan Katok” program to persuade the latter to turn over their firearms for safekeeping until they renew their licenses.
Guns owned by those with expired or revoked licenses are classified as “loose firearms.” INQ
