The Department of Health (DOH) registered a total of 6,346 infections of COVID-19 from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, lower than the cases recorded the previous week.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) registered a total of 6,346 infections of COVID-19 from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, lower than the previous week’s cases.

In its latest weekly report on Monday, DOH said the total cases translated to a daily average of 907 infections, which was 30 percent lower than what was recorded from Oct. 24 to 30, at 907.

Only two or 0.04 percent of the total cases were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 640.

However, an additional 243 deaths were also added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll — 26 of which occurred from Oct. 24 to Nov. 6, while the rest were backlogs recorded as early as March 2021.

Non-ICU utilization rate, meanwhile, currently sits at 24.3 percent. ICU-utilization rate, on the other hand, is at 20.6 percent.

Regarding the progress in vaccination against COVID-19, fully-vaccinated individuals now number 73,582,128 (94.21 percent of the target population), with 40,781 new vaccinations, while individuals with booster shots, now total 20,651,203 after only 70,629 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.

The lower number of infections came after the health department just recently detected the XBB Omicron subvariant and XBC variant of COVID-19.

Both are believed to be highly immune-evasive, with the XBB tagged as the main driving force for the recent COVID-19 surge in Singapore, and the XBC being a combination of the BA.2 sublineage of the Omicron and Delta variants
