MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) sent a team to Maguindanao to provide aid for the area after it was struck by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae), the agency said on Thursday.

According to the agency, the team will have 28 people, and they will provide 40 units of portable water purification systems.

“The team will set up water purifiers in various communities with limited to no supply of clean water. Some will also help in the ongoing operations to clear the roads affected by massive flooding and landslides,” said MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes.

This is in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive for government agencies to provide drinking water to the Paeng-struck area, said the MMDA. The MMDA is coordinating with the 6th infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

Paeng hit the country over the weekend, leaving 122 people dead as of November 2, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
