Cops nab two, seize P21.9 million worth of ‘shabu’ in Cebu City

CEBU CITY — Police arrested two persons and confiscated around P21.9 million worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) during a drug bust here on Tuesday.

Christian Amistad Peña and Burt Jason Faborada Turno did not resist arrest, authorities said.

Based on the investigation, the prohibited drugs were placed in a container of what appeared to be Chinese tea bags.

Authorities said the drugs weighed 3.225 kilos with a street value of P21,930,000.

Cebu City Police Office Director Col. Ireneo Dalogdog said the suspects were under surveillance for more than a month.

Dalogdog said Peña could dispose of about 3 to 5 kilograms of drugs in Cebu City.

Central Visayas Police chief Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba believed the source of the drugs may be one of those identified as major drug suppliers in the country.

Alba has earlier said that drugs in Cebu are often sourced from Luzon.

He said authorities will not stop going after those involved in the illegal drug trade.
