Paeng damage to fisheries in Bicol reach over P67M
LIGAO CITY — Fisheries in the Bicol region lost P67,975,195.87 due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) that struck the country on Saturday.
An assessment report released Wednesday by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Bicol said 927 fisherfolk were affected in the region.
“Most of their losses were damaged fishing boats, fishpens, cages, mangroves, fish corrals, seaweed nursery and fishponds,” Nonie Enolva, chief of the Fisheries Resource Management Section of BFAR Bicol, told the Inquirer in a text message.
She said they were preparing a rehabilitation plan for funding to support and help the displaced fisherfolk.
