LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — This province was placed again under a state of calamity after the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck northern Luzon recently.
It was the second state of calamity in the province after a similar declaration in the wake of the Oct. 17 onslaught of Typhoon Neneng (international name: Nesat).
In provincial resolution no. 056-2022, the Ilocos Norte board said various structures, such as churches, hospitals, schools, roads, bridges, public buildings, and other properties, sustained massive damage.
The declaration of a second state calamity would allow the province to “use, reprogram or realign funds for the repair and improvement of public infrastructure and facilities.”
The latest disaster risk reduction and management council data showed that the province suffered at least P125 million in damage due to the earthquake. INQ
