Queenie weakens into tropical depression

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Queenie (international name: Banyan) weakened into a tropical depression on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

“Queenie was downgraded into tropical depression category at 8:00 AM today,” Pagasa said in its weather bulletin.

Queenie has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and a gustiness of up to 55 kph.

As of 10 a.m., Queenie was located 490 kilometers east of Davao City or 425 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Queenie is likely to bring light to moderate with, at times, heavy rains to Caraga and Davao Oriental.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, Pagasa warned.

Currently, no tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised.
