SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Strong winds spawned by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name Nalgae) toppled large trees inside this freeport, causing the closure of a major road.

Clearing operations were underway to remove the fallen trees along the Argonaut Highway, the police said Monday, Oct. 31.

Personnel from the 2nd Special Action Battalion, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Fire Department at Forest Ranger Branch, and SBMA’s Law Enforcement Department were deployed to the area to speed up the clearing.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Paeng was last spotted at 11 a.m. Monday some 375 kilometers west of Dagupan City .

It has maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and a gustiness of up to 115 kph.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Paeng re-intensified into a severe tropical storm while moving to the West Philippine Sea. INQ
