Marikina River raises 2nd alarm as Paeng dumps rain on Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines  — The Marikina City government on Saturday afternoon raised the second alarm on the Marikina River after the water level reached 16.6 meters at 3:17 p.m.

In its update, the Marikina Public Information Office said the second alarm was raised in accordance with the city’s disaster risk reduction system.

A second alarm intends to warn residents in flood prone areas near the river to prepare for evacuation to designated evacuation centers.

The local government will raise the third alarm on the Markina River if the water level reaches 18 meters. This will also mean the forced evacuation of affected residents.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 in Metro Manila.

Pagasa said Metro Manila can expect to experience heavy to intense with at times torrential rains.

Moderate to heavy rain with at times intense rains are still expected in the metropolis on Sunday, Pagasa said.
