LEGAZPI CITY — The provincial government of Catanduanes has ordered a suspension of classes at all levels on Thursday, Oct. 27, after Tropical Depression Paeng intensified into a tropical storm.

In a memorandum, Gov. Joseph Cua said all in-person and online classes in private and public schools were suspended.

Cua advised people living in high-risk areas to follow evacuation orders and instructions from local officials.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Paeng was estimated at 540 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It was moving west-southwestward at 10 kph, the state weather bureau said.

Pagasa hoisted the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Catanduanes; Rapu-Rapu town, the eastern portion of Albay; and the eastern portion of Sorsogon (Prieto Diaz, Gubat, Barcelona, Bulusan, Santa Magdalena, Irosin, Juban, Casiguran, and Sorsogon City).

Signal No. 1 was also raised in Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Samar. INQ
