MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Paeng could make landfall in Northern Luzon on Sunday, according to the latest Wednesday update of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“On the forecast track, a landfall scenario is possible within any of the coastal areas along the eastern portion of mainland Cagayan Valley or the northern portion of Aurora on Sunday,” Pagasa said.
The center of Paeng was estimated 725 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and a gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Paeng may intensify into a tropical storm on Thursday before further intensifying into a tropical storm over the weekend.
“Paeng is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm tomorrow. Further intensification is likely while moving over the Philippine Sea and may reach typhoon category by Saturday,” Pagasa also said.
“Landfall at or near peak intensity is increasingly likely,” it added.
