MANILA, Philippines — Former Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon is not joining calls for the resignation of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
Several critics earlier called for Remulla’s resignation following issues hounding the Department of Justice including his son’s arrest for alleged importation of kush worth more than P1 million.
“I will not join the call to ask [for] his resignation.
“I have not seen any indication that he has moved the power of his office to favor or to interfere in the investigation of his son,” Drilon said on ANC Headstart on Monday.
However, if Drilon sees any improper behavior of Remulla, he will be the first one to raise a quit call.
“I will be the first to ask for his resignation if I see any indication of improper conduct. He should leave to the prosecutors who are career persons the ability to prosecute this case,” he said.
Amid the clamor for his resignation, Remulla said that “it will not happen.”
While the justice chief noted his unconditional love for his son, he was firm that “a person should always face the consequence of their actions.”
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and some senators expressed support for Remulla and rejected the resignation calls.
Drilon was a labor secretary, justice secretary, and executive secretary during the administration of former late President Corazon Aquino.
He was appointed anew as justice chief during the stint of former President Fidel Ramos.
