3 Cagayan towns under state of calamity — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Three towns in Cagayan have declared a state of calamity due to Tropical Storm Neneng (international name: Nesat), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.

Based on its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said the towns of Santa Ana, Sanchez-Mira, and Santa Praxedes have respectively declared a state of calamity on Oct. 17 in three separate resolutions.

The NDRRMC also reported that a total of 181,185 individuals were affected by Neneng, with 1,689 people displaced and another two injured.

Damage to agriculture also currently sits at over P366 million, affecting 14,578 farmers and fisherfolk.

Daamage to infrastructure, meanwhile, is at P81.55 million.

The province of Ilocos Norte on Oct. 17 also declared a state of calamity due to Neneng.

Tropical Depression Obet

Meanwhile, despite going through Neneng, another weather disturbance, Tropical Depression Obet, is set to hit the same area again.

In its last typhoon bulletin, the state weather bureau said Obet was located 745 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 55 kph and moving westward at 10 kph.

Signal No. 1 is raised over Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga).
