Sanchez Mira town in Cagayan placed in state of calamity due to Typhoon Neneng

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Sanchez Mira town in Cagayan province was placed under a state of calamity after the onslaught of Typhoon Neneng (international name Nesat) that destroyed infrastructure and crops worth P27.5 million in the town, Mayor Abraham Bagasin said Thursday, Oct. 20.

In a phone interview, Bagasin said the town council approved Tuesday the recommendation of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for the declaration citing the effects of Neneng and previous storms.

“The damage was enormous—from typhoons Florita and Maymay to Neneng. Now here comes the heavy rain due to the shear line,” he added.

He said affected farmers would need seeds, fertilizers, fingerlings, and other farm inputs to recover losses.

“Yesterday, we received 3,000 boxes of food packs from the social welfare department, and we have been distributing these now to the residents,” he said.

Neneng affected at least 8,625 families, or 28,266 persons. Thirteen houses were also damaged.

Earlier, the other Cagayan towns of Allacapan, Santa Ana, and Santa Praxedes were placed under a state of calamity due to Neneng and Maymay. INQ
