14 areas to hit ‘danger-level’ heat indices — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Fourteen areas are expected to hit “danger” level peak heat indices on Holy Tuesday, said the state weather bureau.
Based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) latest computed heat index forecast, five of these areas are expected to hit a maximum heat index of 43ºC, including Cavite City and Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

The rest are forecast to reach 42ºC, including Subic and Davao City.
Heat index refers to the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”
Pagasa automatically tags indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC as “danger category” due to the increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.

Puerto Princesa, Palawan – 43ºC
Virac, Catanduanes – 43ºC
Dumangas, Iloilo – 43ºC
La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental – 43ºC
Cubi Pt., Subic Bay Olongapo City – 42ºC
San Ildefonso, Bulacan – 42ºC
TAU Camiling, Tarlac – 42ºC
Ambulong, Tanauan, 42ºC
NAS-UPLB, Los Baños, Laguna – 42ºC
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42ºC
Cuyo, Palawan – 42ºC
CMU Agromet, Musuan, Bukidnon – 42ºC
Davao City, Davao Del Sur – 42ºC
