CITY OF CALAPAN — The police said in a belated report Wednesday that two former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan province on Tuesday, October 18.
City police chief Col.l Roberto Bucad said “Ka Tes,” 45, and “Ka Raffy,” 36, voluntarily surrendered to the City Mobile Force Company in Sitio (sub-village) Inonokan in Barangay (village) Concepcion at around 6:30 p.m.
The two former rebels are under police custody for debriefing before enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
Bucad said information gathered from former NPA members also led to the recovery of two improvised anti-personnel landmines, one rifle grenade, uniforms, and other subversive documents in Sitio Irish in Barangay Binduyan at around 11 a.m., also on Tuesday.
The explosives were turned over to the city’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit for proper custody and disposition.
“This is a product of our commitment through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict to securing our region against the threat of communist terrorism,” said Brig. Gen. Sidney Sultan Hernia, chief of the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police.
Mimaropa police said it had facilitated the surrender of 129 former NPA rebels and supporters, and the recovery and confiscation of 52 firearms used by communist rebels from January 1 to October 19.
