LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The body of a septuagenarian man was found and recovered by rescuers in Bangui town, this province, in the wake of Typhoon Neneng (international name: Nesat), authorities said Tuesday.
The provincial government said the man went missing the night before Neneng hit the province on Sunday.
Rescuers from the local fire station in Bangui identified the man as 75-year-old Rudy Manegdeg, a resident of San Lorenzo village in Bangui.
Manegdeg was believed to have drowned as his body was found in the Bolo river, which is on the boundary between the neighboring towns of Bangui and Pagudpud, rescuers said.
According to the rescuers, Manegdeg lived alone in his house beside a river dike.
Manegdeg was the lone casualty from Neneng, the provincial government said, adding that three more individuals were also injured.
On Tuesday, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Manotoc signed the resolution from the provincial board, which declared a state of calamity in the province due to the extent of damage and flooding caused by Neneng.
