NDRRMC: 103,662 individuals affected by Typhoon Neneng

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Neneng (international name: Nesat) has affected 103,662 individuals, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday.

The NDRRMC said that there are also 4,459 persons displaced by Neneng, with 1,865 still inside evacuation centers. Only two people have been reported injured, with no deaths recorded by the agency.

All of these affected individuals are from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), said the NDRRMC.

Damages to infrastructure and agriculture

In terms of damage to infrastructure, the NDRRMC estimated that the cost reaches P81,555,000, with a total of 33 damaged infrastructures in the aforementioned regions.

According to the NDRRMC, nine roads and eight bridges remain unpassable in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and CAR, while 13 areas are still experiencing power supply interruptions in Ilocos Region, and Cagayan Valley.

Meanwhile, 1,124 farmers and fisherfolks in the Ilocos Region were also affected by Neneng, with 503.57 hectares of crops damaged, according to the agency. The total agricultural loss is estimated to cost P7,687,525.38

Neneng left the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday, October 16. However, a new low pressure area formed east of northern Luzon with a chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, said Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
