New LPA forms inside PAR; rain to prevail over parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines — A new low pressure area (LPA) formed inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that while the LPA has no effect yet over the country, there is a chance that it will develop into a tropical cyclone.

“May nabuong low pressure area sa Dagat Pasipiko, nasa layong 1,140 kilometers silangan ng northern Luzon. Sa kasalukuyang walang epekto ang low pressure area sa ating panahon. Ang magiging kilos o magiging track nitong low pressure area ay patungo sa northern Luzon. Ito ay may tsansa maging bagyo,” said Pagasa weather forecaster Aldczar D. Aurelio in the bureau’s morning weather forecast.

According to Pagasa, rain will still prevail over several areas in the Philippines. Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the northeasterly surface windflow.

The southwesterly surface windflow will cause overcast skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, northern Mindanao, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, said Pagasa.

Aurelio said that Typhoon Neneng (international name: Nesat) is outside of PAR and will no longer affect any part of the country.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to the southwesterly surface windflower or localized thunderstorms, said the state weather bureau.

Areas affected by heavy rains or severe thunderstorms are cautioned by Pagasa of possible landslides or flash floods.

Pagasa listed these temperature ranges in the following cities and areas for Tuesday:

  • Metro Manila — 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio — 17 to 22  degrees Celsius
  • Laoag — 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao — 26 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi — 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa — 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay — 23 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands — 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo — 25 to 28 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu — 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban — 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan de Oro — 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga — 20 to 28 degrees Celsius
  • Davao — 25 to 34 degrees Celsius
