MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) may declare parts of northern Luzon under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 by Friday afternoon due to Tropical Depression Neneng.
“[TCWS] No.1 may be hoisted this afternoon over the eastern portion of Northern Luzon in the anticipation of winds of at least strong breeze to near gale strength associated with the approaching tropical cyclone,” it said in its 11 a.m. weather bulletin.
Pagasa also said it is not ruling out raising up to TCWS Signal no. 2 in certain areas if Neneng further intensifies.
The center of the Neneng is located 835 km east of extreme northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph, according to the state meteorologists.
The state weather bureau likewise said that Neneng is forecast to become stronger while moving over the Philippine Sea and may reach the tropical storm category by Saturday evening or early morning Sunday before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday, October 17.
