313 quakes recorded in Bulusan Volcano in past 24 hours
LEGAZPI CITY — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded 313 volcanic earthquakes in Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon province in the past 24 hours.
In its 8 a.m. bulletin on Thursday, Oct. 13, Phivolcs said the volcano was inflated, indicating possible eruptions.
On Wednesday, Phivolcs raised alert level 1 over the volcano due to “increased hydrothermal activity.”
The agnecy also said “a pronounced and ongoing inflationary trend” was detected since late September on the southwestern and southern slopes.
Bulusan Volcano emitted 279 tons of sulfur dioxide on Sept. 29.

Article continues after this advertisementOn June 5 and 12, the volcano erupted, which sent ash to Juban, Magallanes, Castilla and Pilar towns, and Sorsogon City in Sorsogon and Legazpi City in Albay.
The volcano’s alert level was lowered from 1 to 0 (quiet or no alert) on Aug. 21.
