Stakeholders campaigning for Earth Hour

Ahead of the March 31 celebration of Earth Hour, the Mactan Economic Zone II and its partners made the rounds visiting schools and holding various activities to bring more people to the event.

The MEZ2 in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, together with its partners Philippine Air Force, Philippine Red Cross Lapu-Lapu City-Cordova chapter, MEZ2 Multipartite Monitoring Team and the Lapu-Lapu City community are making rounds to encourage more people to join the Earth Hour 2012 observance at the Pueblo Verde in Lapu-Lapu.

The MEZ2 Earth Hour School Caravan has visited Sudtonggan Elementary School, Dr. Caridad C. Labe Education Centrex, Gun-ob Elementary School, Mactan Air Base Elementary School, Science and Technology Education Center, Basak Elementary School, Suba-Masulog Elementary School and St. Augustine International School. The visit highlighted an interschool poster-making contest on March 24 and a public film showing on March 29.

The participating schools, MEZ2 locators and other stakeholders are preparing various production numbers for Earth Hour 2012.

They will display their creations made from recyclable materials.

The switch-off at the zone is scheduled at 8:30 until 9:30 p.m., coinciding with the global lights out.

The Philippine Air Force Band, Ministry of Music, Performing Arts Academy and “Autumn Runaway” Band will render performances.

Earth Hour is widely observed in the Philippines.
