Active COVID-19 cases in Quezon breach 100-mark

Quezon logs fewer COVID-19 cases in September

LUCENA CITY — Quezon has 13 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the number of active ones in the province to 103 on Monday, Oct. 10.

For four consecutive days, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the province was rising, data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed.

From 94 active cases at the start of the month, the number rose to 97 on Oct. 7; 98 on Oct. 8; and 101 on Oct. 9.

On June 3, only Lucena City, the capital of Quezon, had active COVID-19 cases, with two recorded infected residents then.

The IPHO record shows that 24 of 41 towns in the province have active virus carriers.

Lucena and neighboring Tayabas topped the list with 15 active infections each, followed by Candelaria town with 14 and the adjacent municipality of Sariaya with 13.

From 136 active cases at the start of September, the cases dropped to 80 at the end of the month.

The infected patients have been admitted to several hospitals, while some were under home quarantine.

The IPHO data also showed that, as of Oct. 10, only 190,124 of 2,159,711 doses of vaccines administered had booster shots and additional doses.

The local and provincial health centers have been conducting daily vaccination drives in shopping malls, working areas, schools, and private and government offices.
