LUCENA CITY — Police officers arrested four suspected big-time drug traffickers early Monday and seized 33 kilos of marijuana, or “weed,” in Dasmariñas City, Cavite province.

In a spot report, the Region 4A police said local cops on routine patrol saw a parked Toyota Innova on the dark section of the road in Barangay Langkaan 1 at 12:55 a.m.

When the policemen approached the vehicle, its passengers, identified as Orlando Abong, Christian De Torres, Jeremiah Schroeder, and John Edmar Ortelano, reportedly became disrespectful, which prompted the police officers to conduct a further inspection of the vehicle.

The police found inside the vehicle 40 bricks of dried marijuana leaves and six plastic sachets that also contained weed, weighing a total of 33 kilos with a street market value of P330,000.

Authorities also discovered two bottles of liquid marijuana.

Police were tracking the source of the illegal hemp.

Authorities confiscated the vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects in their illegal drug trade.

All suspects are now in police custody and will face charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, locally grown cannabis or marijuana is now the preferred drug both on the demand and supply side, beating erstwhile top choice “shabu” or methamphetamine hydrochloride. INQ
