BACOLOD CITY — At least 72 inaccurate weighing scales at the Cadiz City Public Market were destroyed using a road roller on Tuesday, October 4, to protect consumers from dishonest vendors.

The weighing scales were confiscated by the Market Operations Division Composite Team during a series of surprise inspections at the Cadiz City Public Market over a period of four months.

“The confiscation is part of the city government’s response to complaints from consumers on the inaccurate weighing of goods by some vendors,” said Mayor Salvador Escalante.

October is Consumer’s Welfare Month.

Department of Trade and Industry provincial director Rachel Nufable, and other officials witnessed the crushing of the weighing scales.
