VIENTIANE — Central and northern regions of Laos are advised to keep track of weather forecasts regarding a typhoon that lashed the Philippines on Sunday.

Typhoon Noru is expected to make landfall in Vietnam on September 26 and could then pass over central and northern Laos on September 27-28, bringing heavy rain.

The Meteorology and Hydrology Department warns that it will bring thunderstorms and strong winds in the northern provinces of Phongsaly, Huaphan, Xieng Khuang, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury.
Storm Noru is also expected to affect Vientiane and the provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, Borikhamxay, Khammuan and Savannakhet.

People in these areas should be prepared for heavy rain and the possibility of flooding, especially at the bottom of hillsides, around waterways, and in low-lying areas. Everyone is advised to listen to weather forecasts issued by the department and take the necessary steps to protect their homes.
