MANILA, Philippines — Former President Rodrigo Duterte remained popular until his last days in office, getting an all-time record-high +81 net satisfaction score, polling firm Social Weather Stations (SWS) stated on Friday.

SWS said in a report released on its website that Duterte’s score, garnered from surveys held from June 26 to 29 — his last days in Malacañang — beat a previous record held by him also, a +79 obtained in the November 2020 edition of the survey.

“The national Social Weather Survey of June 26-29, 2022, the last under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, found 88% of adult Filipinos satisfied, 5% undecided, and 7% dissatisfied with the performance of Rodrigo R. Duterte as President,” SWS said.

“Compared to April 2022, gross satisfaction with President Duterte rose by 10 points from 78%, gross undecided fell by 4 points from 9%, and gross dissatisfaction fell by 6 points from 13% […] the resulting net satisfaction rating is +81 (% satisfied minus % dissatisfied), classified by SWS as excellent,” it added.

While SWS has not released the total average satisfaction rate over Duterte’s term that spanned from June 2016 to June 2020, he is in pace for the highest average ratings ever, compared to the +45 score of late former president Benigno Aquino III, the +38 from late former president Fidel Ramos, and the +35 from former president Corazon Aquino.

“The 16-point rise in President Duterte’s overall net satisfaction rating from April 2022 to June 2022 was due to increases in all areas.  President Duterte’s net satisfaction rose from very good to excellent in Metro Manila, up by 22 points from +63 to a new record-high +85. This surpassed the previous record of +76 in November 2020 for this area,” SWS said.

SWS said it got the scores through face-to-face interviews of 1,500 Filipino adults, subdivided into 300 for each for Metro Manila, Visayas, Mindanao, and 600 for Balance Luzon.  The polling firm said it maintains sampling error margins of ±2.5% for national percentages, ±5.7% each for Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao, and ±4.0% for Balance Luzon.
