LOOK: 92 fishermen receive blinkers from PCG
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) distributed light “blinkers” to 92 fisher folk from different barangays (villages) across Samal Island in Davao del Norte to protect them from collisions with large vessels at night.
The Coast Guard Station Island Garden City of Samal (CGS IGACOS), CGSS Kaputian, CGSS Tagpopongan, and CGSS Talicud distributed the blinkers on Thursday.
According to Station Commander Ensign Vasit Venturillo of CGS IGACOS, the blinkers help prevent accidents or collisions, as large ships and boats must be able to notice small boats at night.
“Ang mga ilaw ay magsisilbing proteksyon upang maiwasan ang disgrasya o banggaan ng mga mandaragat sa gabi. Layunin ng aktibidad na ito ay paigtingin ang kaligtasan ng buhay at ari-arian sa dagat,” said the CGS IGACOS’ Facebook post.
(The lights will serve as protection and prevent accidents or collisions of vessels at night. The goal of this activity is to boost the safety of life and property at sea).
CGS IGACOS said it would continue to conduct such activities for the good of the community and citizens in its jurisdiction. –Kristelle Razon, INQUIRER.net trainee
