LUCENA CITY — At least 100 alleged former rebels in Quezon province denounced on Thursday, Sept. 22, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA).
Colonel Ledon Monte, Quezon police chief, local government officials, and military representatives witnessed the rebel returnees condemn the terroristic activities of their former comrades in an event held in San Narcisco town, the Quezon police information office reported.
The returnees, 28 of them former NPA combatants, the rest sympathizers, also took their pledge to support the government.
The report said the former rebels surrendered in the past two months.
Concerned government agencies are preparing the assistance to the former rebels under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).
E-Clip offers free medical treatment, education, housing, and legal aid to rebels who surrender.
A rebel can receive cash and other benefits to help them and their families start new lives. INQ
