TAGBILARAN CITY — The local government here on Tuesday broke ground for a modern and larger coliseum in Bohol province.
Mayor Jane Yap and Engr. John Paul Gascon of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bohol 1st district led the groundbreaking ceremony in Barangay Dampas, where the coliseum will rise.
The Tagbilaran City Sports Coliseum has a floor area of 4,000 square meters which will cater to the need of Tagbilaranons for a spacious facility for different events and gatherings in the province.
The new building is expected to be finished in the last quarter of 2025.
“Today, we are making history. For many years, this has been a dream of my husband, former Tagbilaran City mayor Baba Yap. This dream is now a reality,” Yap said.
The new coliseum, she said, is not just an ordinary venue but a world-class events facility.
Once the project is completed, the city can invite national sports events like the Philippine Basketball Association.
Aside from sports events, the coliseum will provide space for concerts, cultural presentations, and conventions.
“The Tagbilaran City Sports Coliseum will not just be a building. In time, it will also reflect the youthful Tagbilaranon architecture symbolizing the city’s energy and dynamism, and the City Government of Tagbilaran’s stern commitment to progress and sustainability,” Yap said.
Vice Mayor Adam Jala also attended the ground breaking activity, Chief of Staff Baba Yap, City Administrator Cathy Torremocha, Engineer Noel Datahan, City General Services Office head Chris John Rener Torralba, Culture and Arts head Joseph Alexis Cadelina and village officials.
