SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A 25-year-old former communist rebel in this province surrendered to the government and turned over his firearm, the police said Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) identified the rebel as “Ka Ubas,” a former Militiang Bayang Iskwad Tres member.
Brigadier General Cesar Pasiwen said: “Hunger, hardship, and unfulfilled promises” forced Ka Ubas to turn himself in and abandon the communist movement.
Pasiwen said the former rebel also surrendered his 12-gauge improvised shotgun without ammunition. INQ
