Ex-rebel in Zambales surrenders to gov’t
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A former member of the New People’s Army in this province has surrendered to the authorities, police said Friday, June 17.
In a statement, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) identified the man as alias “Ka Rudy” from Barangay Balincaguing in San Felipe town.
According to the PRO3, Ka Rudy had already withdrawn his support for the communist terrorist group operating in the province.
His surrender was facilitated by various units of the local police and military.
Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay, PRO3 director, said Ka Rudy’s surrender was primarily due to the intensified campaign by the government to eradicate insurgency in Central Luzon.
