At least 300 more inmates await gift of freedom on Bongbong Marcos’ birthday

MANILA, Philippines — Another batch of more than 300 inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) is expected to be released to celebrate the birthday of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said they submitted at least 300 more names qualified for executive clemency to Malacañang.

An Executive Clemency refers to the commutation of a sentence, conditional or absolute pardon that may be granted by the President based on the recommendation by the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP).

“The act of grace is something that the country likes to see from a very powerful man to one who is most desirous of liberty. It is a very good gesture to society,” Remulla told reporters.

Remulla and Public Attorneys’ Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta are at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to witness the release of 371 PDLs.

Remulla tapped BuCor, PAO, BPP, and the Parole and Probation Administration to prepare a list of qualified PDLs.

Acosta said they have submitted the names to Malacañang and are up for the President’s signature.

Marcos is celebrating his 65th birthday today, September 13.
