Bishop Emeritus Joseph Benedict Nacua, 77, dies
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — Bishop Emeritus Joseph Benedict Amangi Nacua died at the age of 77 due to a “lingering illness” on Saturday, Sept. 10, five years after he resigned due to health reasons as Roman Catholic’s Diocese of Ilagan bishop in Isabela,
The Social Communication Ministry of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao, which made the announcement, did not give details about his death.
Details of the wake and interment will be announced later.
Pope Francis formally accepted Nacua’s resignation in February 2017.
Bishop David William Antonio replaced him after a two-year vacancy in the position of Ilagan bishop in 2019.

Article continues after this advertisementNacua is the first Capuchin missionary in the country to be appointed bishop in June 2008. He served the Ilagan diocese, which has more than 1.2 million Catholics, for almost nine years.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1945.
