Malacañang declares Sept. 12 holiday in Ilocos Norte to mark late President Marcos’ birthday
LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Residents of Ilocos Norte are looking forward to a long weekend as President Bongbong Marcos has declared Sept. 12, Monday, a holiday to mark the birth anniversary of his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
Executive Secretary Victor D. Rodriguez, by authority of the President, signed Proclamation No. 53 on Sept. 7.
Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc, grandson of Marcos Sr., shared on Thursday a copy of the proclamation on his official Facebook page.
Marcos Sr.’s birth anniversary this year falls on a Sunday, prompting the provincial board to request that the following day be declared a holiday instead, the proclamation said.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Ilocos Norte be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government,” it said.
Article continues after this advertisementThe celebration of Marcos Sr.’s birth anniversary began on Sept. 8, Thursday, in the province, with the Bongbong Marcos Cup 2022, a four-day practical shooting competition, at the Plaza del Norte in Balacad village in this town.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Ilocos Norte tourism office will also open an Ilocos Norte and La Union tourism and trade exhibit on Friday at Robinsons Place Ilocos.
An inter-collegiate debate cup finals and literary and musical competition on Saturday would also be held.
The “Marcos Fiesta” concert, to be headlined by Side A, will cap off the celebrations at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, residents and officials in Batac City and Sarrat town would hold a thanksgiving mass and a wreath-laying ceremony, according to the provincial tourism office. INQ
